“Mental Cause and Effect” Live-streamed discussion and meditation at Tse Chen Ling Center for Tibetan Buddhist Studies, April 19, 2020

Science has greater and greater mastery in understanding and controlling physical cause and effect, from planets to particles, but we are only starting to understand cause and effect in our minds. Evolution, habits, and society all affect our behavior. How do we gain conscious control of our behavior, much less our thoughts? One method is a daily practice of self-appreciation and self-forgiveness that lets us release regret and pain to face each day with renewed presence and joy. It’s a practice adopted from the Tibetan Buddhist understanding of karma and how to purify it.

This discussion and meditation by Scott Snibbe was recorded April 19, 2020 at Tse Chen Ling Center for Tibetan Buddhist Studies San Francisco, California on a topic also addressed in the podcast episodes: Mental Cause and Effect and its meditation: Guided Meditation – Mental Cause and Effect.

The talk, part of Tse Chen Ling’s “Taste of Buddhism” program, takes a secular approach to Buddhist topics, requiring no religious beliefs.
